Who doesn’t want to make their home feel more inviting and warm?

The beauty of organic, or natural materials is that they’ll work with any style of home, bringing a softness and natural quality that is easy to relate to.

Although we might think of organic design in terms of spectacular flowing forms and buildings that are completely at one with their surroundings, every home can benefit from a little organic styling. Whether it’s products that are ergonomic and gentle to the touch, or elements that are ‘living’, raw or unfinished, it’s easy to play with nature’s own materials and colour palette.

Here’s a selection of our favourite organic styles:

Timber:

Recycled and reclaimed timber is a great choice, especially on shelves, sideboards and tables. Driftwood is an easy way to bring a gentle touch of nature indoors or dare to be different with shelves made from rough-sawn timber or scaffolding boards. Timber-clad walls and ceilings can take organic design to the next level.

Stone:

Think large or small, from marble, limestone or rock cladding, to pebbles and crystals. This will bring a very luxurious feel to your kitchen, bedroom or bathroom.

Rattan:

Add natural touches to your interiors with rattan, seagrass or bamboo elements. Think bedheads, baskets, dining chairs and even light pendants.

Coir:

Natural and hard wearing, coir and jute, along with textured wool, are a perfect pick if you’re looking to add an organic layer to your floors, especially in living areas and bedrooms. Go for neutral colours to keep the look gentle and harmonious.

Plants:

A flash of leafy-green perks up any interior design scheme, bringing a freshness and natural quality to the space. Think outside the box, too, with plants hanging on walls and from ceilings. Bonus: plants are known for bringing good energy into the home and better air quality, by removing toxins from the air we breathe.

Linen:

When it comes to organic fabric choices, look out for linen and cottons, from stylish sofa covers to beautiful bedding. Touches of sheepskin or fur add an organic softness and can feel naturally luxurious, and oh so cosy.
