Alejandra, Joseph and their son Leo began their home building journey knowing it was about more than construction and design. It was about freedom, stability and creating a space that felt entirely theirs.

After spending time renting, they were ready for a place where they could put down roots without the stress of inspections or restrictions. The competitive property market made buying an established home difficult, and finding a home that suited their needs felt out of reach. That’s when they considered building, which offered them the ability to choose every detail from the ground up, from colours and finishes to the way the home would function for their growing family.

When it came to selecting a builder, trust and quality were non-negotiable for their family.

“We chose to build with Dale Alcock because they had a really good reputation and their houses that they build are really high quality, which was very important for us.”

Alejandra also felt a strong pull towards Dale Alcock Homes as she felt the quality of standard inclusions was what many builders treated as upgrades. “The fact that you get all of those included was really, really good,” she said. Visiting display homes helped to seal the deal for Joseph.  Going in and seeing them in person first, you could kind of see the quality of workmanship,” he added.

When choosing a home design, Alejandra and Joseph were clear about what was important to them, a space designed to support their family for all the days they would call it home. Their top priorities included spacious bedrooms, plenty of storage, a well-designed kitchen and an activity room where Leo could have his own space to play. The feeling of connection was important for their family, so they opted for a design with open plan living for entertaining and togetherness.

The building process itself turned out to be just as reassuring as they’d hoped. The sense of clarity and consistency that Alejandra and Joseph experienced during their building journey made a big difference.

“We had a really positive experience, everything ran smoothly, we didn’t have too many delays, which was really good, and the time frame for the build was pretty much bang on to what they told us at the beginning.”

After renting, stepping into a home they had designed themselves felt like a turning point. The completion of their home building journey renewed a sense of belonging and pride.

“I think the most rewarding part of building our own home was just seeing everything come to life… being built from the ground up, that was really cool.”

Even after moving in, Alejandra and Joseph felt supported.“The aftercare with Home Assist after handover was really good, we were really impressed,” Alejandra explains. “It was really impressive having them come out within two days of raising the issue to them.”  The responsiveness reinforced Alejandra and Joseph’s confidence that they were supported well beyond the build itself.

Being clear on their priorities from the beginning paid off. Now that they are settled in, Alejandra and Joseph are thankful for their design choices. The kitchen and living area have naturally become the heart of the home, a place where cooking, family time and everyday moments happen together.

“As you’re cooking and cleaning and doing your thing, you’re overlooking the rest of the family,” Joseph explains. “That’s our main place we gather each day.” Alejandra adds, “We can all be together doing separate things. Leo can be in the living room playing with his toys or watching something and I’ll be in the kitchen cooking.”

Bolder choices, such as their navy blue kitchen island and colourful feature tiles in the laundry, have added personality and individuality. “The laundry tiles that we chose, we went a bit crazy and bold,” Alejandra laughs. “That’s a really nice feature that we have, it’s nice and colourful.”

These thoughtful details often become conversation starters when guests visit, making the home feel distinctly theirs.

Their time at Home Collective left a lasting impression. Each visit felt considered and personal, with the team creating an experience that felt welcoming, supportive and genuinely enjoyable.

“The best way that we can describe it as is like going to a five-star hotel… That’s what we describe it to our friends and family.”

Moments like celebrating Joseph’s birthday during a selection appointment reinforced the care and attention that defined their experience. That level of care left a lasting impression.

Owning their own home has allowed Alejandra and Joseph to feel more relaxed and settled, free to personalise their space and plan for the future. For Alejandra, the impact has been deeply personal, “It just makes me happier overall,” she says.

Looking back, Alejandra and Joseph encourage future home builders to take their time, do their research and choose a builder they feel genuinely comfortable with.

From their very first visit, the decision felt right and that sense of trust carried through every stage of the building journey.

“Ever since we stepped into Home Collective and we spoke to a Dale Alcock Representative, we felt like we belonged,” Alejandra says. “It was meant to be.”
