Minimalism is a design trend that started in the early 20th century.

At the time, it was a very new movement and design approach, and it’s still considered contemporary today. This tells us it never goes out of style. A minimalist design is a design stripped down to only its essential elements while still being sophisticated and interesting. In short, a good de-clutter!

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was a famous German architect who’s considered a pioneer of modern architecture, and his architectural style laid the groundwork for minimalist design, he’s the chap famous for saying “Less is more”.

Key things to consider when trying to achieve a minimalist look:

•Use raw modern materials

•De-clutter the space & only have key elements & necessities in the design and layout of the area

•Include lots of open space

•Use simple forms and elegant clean lines

•Natural colours and tones (no patterns and prints!)

•Make it interesting with texture in your materials

•Using geometrically precise corners or with a slight curve

•Contrast between elements

•Walls are only a backdrop for your elements so consider keeping them white

•Fill the space with large amounts of diffused natural light

•Balance is key

In short, minimalism is about simplicity and good design. Creating a space that is fresh where you can feel comfortable even with the bare minimum.
