“This house is the perfect home for us.”

Life changing. Two words used to describe how this family feels about their brand new home. Meet Sonja, a busy solo mum, and her two children, who found a fresh start in their new Dale Alcock Home. Nestled in the charming Woodlands neighbourhood, Sonja and her family have the convenience of being within walking distance to schools and shops, whilst surrounded by their friends and community.

Sonja was seeking a fresh start for herself and her two children. Building a new home was the first step and choosing Dale Alcock Homes was a no brainer after meeting her New Home Consultant, Kevin Shaw: “Kevin went above and beyond from the start. He even came with me to a meeting during the negotiations for the land!”, explains Sonja.

Despite facing a setback when she temporarily lost the block due to the pandemic, Sonja was determined, managed to re-negotiate the land and proceeded with her building dream. “While there were some unexpected challenges along the way, it felt like the DAH team always stood by me, offering their support and expertise to overcome any obstacles that arose. Their dedication and problem-solving made the entire journey really smooth and enjoyable for me and my family.”, remembers Sonja.

“The children and I were part of the process every step of the way”

The building process of their new home was a family affair for Sonja and her children, who thoroughly enjoyed the experience. “We visited the block nearly every morning and evening, watching the earthworks, the concrete pour, the brickwork, the carpentry, the roofing, the rendering, the tiling and all the finishing touches. DAH Site Manager Will Dench was awesome and the tradies were wonderful.”, recalls Sonja. “My daughter was able to lay a brick at the front door! I am so grateful to all the tradies for their kindness as well as their quality work.”

Sonja had a clear vision of her dream house, knowing exactly how she wanted her forever home to look: “My theme for this home was ‘industrial art house’. I was seeking high-ceilings and character to go alongside pieces of art I have either painted, or collected over the years. I knew exactly what I wanted, so the selection process was easy. I wanted to achieve a homely-aged feel with exposed recycled-look brick as a main feature.”, explains Sonja.

In addition, Sonja had a few other must-haves on her wish list: “I love fashion, so a glamourous wardrobe was at the top of my list. I also wanted to put in a pool for the children and their friends to enjoy in the years ahead. The pool company worked with DAH to have it ready in line with our handover. That was just before Christmas so it was absolutely perfect and just shows how helpful the DAH team was in accommodating the best-possible outcome for our family.”

The transition from a “dreadful” rental situation to her brand new home not only marked a fresh beginning for Sonja and her children, but also introduced a newfound tranquillity and ease into their lives: “Life is 10 times better. My children and I have security and certainty once more. I know these years are to be treasured, because they go past so quickly. I want to enjoy every moment with my kids and this house is the perfect home for us.”, affirms Sonja.

“I genuinely look forward to coming home everyday and I know my children do too.”

Twelve months after receiving their keys, Sonja and her children still feel a strong sense of pride when it comes to their new home. “One day I hope to do it all again. I’m so grateful to all those who helped me to make this home possible. It’s a project that has been empowering amidst some difficult times.”
