“Design geared for growing families”

West Australian, New Homes, 31st October 2009

First-time buyers are the target market for a spacious new home.

With spacious open-plan living areas, big bedrooms, a high level of specification and a build price within reach of many first-time buyers, Dale Alcock Homes’, Mondo display in Wellard is designed to cater for the evolving needs of young West Australian families.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home has a layout that makes good use of available space, yet it is flexible and adaptable to meet the varied needs of families with children of different age groups. It is also an excellent design for investors.

The home’s design impressed the judges with its “effective use of material, technology and costing”.

“This is a practical and well-designed home displaying exceptional workmanship and attention to detail,” they said.

Managing director Dale Alcock said the display had been styled to suit younger couples looking to entertain at home. The games room was shown with a bar but could be adapted for use as a children’s activity space or alfresco area under the main roof.

The home has a classy “modern Euro” elevation, with tones of grey for the rendered walls, Colorbond roof and garage door, and bold burnt orange for a central boxed gatehouse.

Inside, the home has a familiar layout updated to incorporate latest design features and materials, with the main suite, office and theatre room in a wing at the front, three big minor bedrooms, the bathroom and laundry on the back-left-side, and a spacious family room at the centre, with the kitchen, dining area and games room ranged along the right side.

In the main suite, a walk-through robe is tucked behind a three-quarter height wall that frames the bed and the ensuite has a corner bath, twin vanities with overhanging basins, big shower and a separate toilet. Another three-quarter height screen wall separates the entry from the theatre room, opposite the home office. Beyond the entry, big windows and high ceilings enhance the impression of light and space in the central family room, kitchen, dining area and games room.

The kitchen has CaesarStone benchtops with a chunky laminate upstand, lots of cupboards and drawers, plus a floating horizontal cupboard next to the range hood. The wall oven is above pot drawers and below a microwave recess and vertical wine or book racks and the pantry is in the corner next to a fridge recess.

A broad pier separates the dining area and games room, without enclosing either space, and it has fitted glass shelves for the display, linking to the optional built-in bar. Glazed doors in the games room open to the back yard.

The three double minor bedrooms have two-door robes, and the laundry and bathroom have layouts that make good use of available space.
