Dale Alcock Partners with the Salvos for rehabilitation expansion

16th June

Dale Alcock Homes is the Major Partner of The Salvation Army annual doorknock appeal which occurred on the 18th May 2009, which managed to raise $680,000 for Western Australia. Dale Alcock is also helping with a proposed expansion of the Harry Hunter Rehabilitation Centre in Gosnells.

The Salvation Army facility is an accommodation service, which runs a 13-week rehabilitation program for substance addiction. Unfortunately, one of our houses used for accommodation has deteriorated substantially unable to be used and consequently for some time now, our centre has been running on reduced capacity.

Ken Smith, Manager of the service said "Our capacity is reduced to 40 clients currently. There are two main waiting lists to get into rehabilitation. There are around 70 currently wanting to get into our Assessment at Bridge House which equates to a 4 to 6 week wait. There could be up to a further two week wait between our assessment centre and long term rehabilitation centre in Gosnells. With Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation it is essential to move people quicker through this service to capture the moment of strong intent in dealing with the addiction issues. The longer the wait the greater the risk of relapse and moving back to their old environment and circle of influences".

"After recently viewing the Hurry Hunter Rehabilitation Centre in Gosnells and meeting with key personnel we were touched by what the Salvation Army was able to achieve from limited resources and the impact that the centre was having on peoples lives. Given our current involvement it seemed to be a natural progression that we offer our services as a builder to assist in building three new units. We are very excited by this new venture and the opportunity to give back to the community, said Dale Alcock, Managing Director Dale Alcock Homes'.

"As a West Australian builder with strong links to the community we are committed to investing our energy and resources into such a credible and committed organization as the Salvation Army, and in particular the Red Shield Appeal," he said.

"Dale Alcock Homes have offered their support by substantially reducing costs to build three new units which will increase our client intake. Simply without the offer, we could not afford the works required to restore our service to full capacity and lower the waiting time" said Ken Smith, Manager of the Harry Hunter Rehabilitation Centre.

The Red Shield Doorknock Appeal funds vital services like this, which does make a huge impact into restoring lives and families from the debilitating affects of drug and alcohol addiction. The Centre will see over 300 clients this year attempt to make a fresh start to their lives.

Now more than ever, The Salvation Army stands ready to help together with the community's support.
