Brick classic fits older suburb

Much thought went in to the making of this classic two-storey family home. Ann McRae takes a tour.

Working as a project manager for Dale alcock Homes gave Terry Gray a good insight into the sort of family home he wanted built in Mosman Park.

The two-storey result in red Austral bricks is a timeless classic that fits well into the older suburb and provides a long-time future for a young family with two boys.

A triple garage with cream doors sets off the front elevation with limestone-look cladding on columns that frame the entry doors and a second-level balcony.

Timber floors throughout the traffic areas also fir the area and high ceilings and recesses around doorways add further visual interest to the interiors.

On the found level is the parents zone at the front with a resort-style bedroom featuring its own courtyard, a big walk-in robe and a luxury ensuite with twin showerheads.

Nearby is the home theatre with a vaulted ceiling and a study. The family rooms can be closed off with French doors and these areas flow through more glass doors to the alfresco area and gardens.

The big kitchen is set between the meals and family wings with stone benchtops and dark laminate cupboards that include a wide stainless-steel gas stove and bronze glass splashbacks. Upstairs, the children’s level has its own living room with a corner kitchenette and sliding glass doors to a tiled balcony overlooking the back garden.

Three big bedrooms on this level all have built-in robs and the two facing the street have access to a second balcony with views.

The family bathroom has a bath and separate powder room and there is a three-door linen cupboard along the landing.

“We planned the home to suit our living needs for the next 20 years,” said Mr Gray.
