Roof Vents
During the hot summer months, heat can build up in the roof space of the home from its direct exposure to the summer sun. Insulating the ceiling space should reduce the heat that transfers through to the living spaces beneath and ventilating the roof space will help to remove the excess heat from above the ceiling insulation.
An option is to add a “whirly bird” which spins and extracts the hot air from the roof space. This option is available for use on tile and colorbond roofs.
Also clients can elect to add an “E-vent” to the highest ridge of the roof that will allow the hot air to rise and escape. These are designed to stop rain, birds and rodent from entering the roof whilst letting the hot air escape. E-vents are only suitable for use on Colorbond roofs.
These would normally be needed on both lower and upper storey roofs and would be placed at the highest point on the roof possible. Consider the aesthetics of the home when discussing these vents and note that E-vents can only run horizontally along the highest ridge in the home. They need approx 2 metres of flat ridge to be installed and cannot be cut down in size as they are a prefabricated unit.
