Insulation
Currently we insulate the ceilings of all of our homes and garages with R3.0 insulation batts. This ensures that the home complies with the current BCA requirements.
Clients can elect to increase the R rating of this insulation (upto R3.5) and may also like to add Sisalation foil or “Anticon” insulation underneath their roofing material if they wish to upgrade their insulation even further.
Some clients may wish to look at adding “Air-Cell” wall insulation to the cavity walls of their home as well. This is a silver “bubble wrap” like product that is built into the home during construction and it promises to minimise the thermal transfer of heat from one leaf of the cavity wall to another… It is most often used in East and West facing walls which have direct contact from morning and afternoon sun.
Studies have been conducted by Macquarie University into the thermal performance and insulation capabilities of double clay brick construction and there is evidence to suggest that double clay brick construction is the best way to “normalise” the impact of changing outside temperatures on the interior comfort of your home.
