Steve and Amanda from Mullaloo

Designed by an architect in 1979 the original home design was modern and eclectic for its time.  In desperate need for a make-over to bring it into the 21st century and provide more space for the young family, this ugly duckling has been transformed into a funky and contemporary family home.

Second Storey

At the heart of the sophisticated second storey addition is an adults area which includes a new master suite and retreat, open-plan ensuite, cavernous dressing room and a spare room which is now dubbed the “boy’s only” room.

Modern materials and colours have been used throughout along with attention to solar orientation and use of solar materials. The completed extension is like a newly built home proudly taking centre stage in the street.

Living Area

The rear space of the downstairs area has been configured to create an open living area with an innovative narrow layout.  The area includes a lounge room, kitchen and dining, all opening onto a large paved alfresco area. The bank of glass doors which are north facing have the advantage of opening up onto the alfresco, creating the illusion of the living area being even larger than it is.

Kitchen

The large open kitchen has a trough sink and funky taps set in the middle island bench which can also be used as a breakfast table; perfect for interaction with the kids on busy mornings.  The CaesarStone benchtops and two tone doors of timber and mocha creates a unique and modern look. The large freestanding oven & cook top is a focal point of the kitchen and is great for cooking up a storm.  Storage is not a concern in this kitchen with an abundance of space allowing for everything to be hidden away with its own specific place.

Bedroom

A feature of the combined master bedroom and retreat is the vast amount of space and light. The open ensuite further contributes to the sense of space giving creating an open and roomy sense of style.

Ensuite

The ensuite come complete with two contemporary sinks which are in-set into a wood-grain benchtop, and finished with white cupboards and frosted glass. The look is not only modern but has a sophisticated feel.  Frosted glass cupboards above and open shelving allow for additional storage.

The large shower is resort like with a ceiling mounted rainwater shower head and tiled seat with its own window, allowing the owners to relax and stare at the ocean whilst winding down for the day.

This renovation is a true transformation from the 1979 architect designed home undergoing a complete makeover which has resulted in a very modern family home which the owners are proud to call their own.
