With previous additions that didn’t complement the home, this old character cottage located in South Fremantle was the perfect candidate for a renovation. Dale Alcock Home Improvement was called in to design an addition which would integrate seamlessly with the original home and the owner’s lifestyle.
Out with the old and in with the new, in this case rings very true. With a new fresh, more contemporary design approved by the owners, the original extension was removed paving the way for the new addition..
Evolving with the times, an integrated living room was created as part of the new open plan area. Situated adjacent to the kitchen, allowance was made for a recessed area for the clients entertainment system to slip into. Three small box feature windows on the eastern wall created aspect as well as a new modern feeling.
Sweeping timber floors have helped retain the homes character throughout. Two sets of double glass doors open out from the living area and dining room onto the outdoor decked entertaining area, resulting in a sumptuous indoor / outdoor area, perfect lazy summer days or when family and friends pop over.
It was important to the owners to keep the integrity of the home and not completely hide its true character. As a result they decided to mix the new plastered walls with the original limestone walls which have added an element of diversity to the room.
A new kitchen featuring white bench tops, cupboards and drawers complement the stylish stainless steel appliances. In order to further enhance the open plan living style the kitchen is relaxed yet spacious. The inclusion of an island bench helps break up this room from the rest of the open living areas yet still allows for family interaction.
The extension also included an additional bedroom, bathroom, powder room and laundry. A new dressing room and ensuite was built off the master suite and incorporates weatherboard cladding, effectively blending character with functionality.
Other inclusions to the extension were timber floors, windows, high ceilings, quality fixtures and finishes. For the owners not only has the renovation created the light, bright open plan home that they wanted, it has also given it a new lease of life adding value and style.
