With this old style three bedroom, one bathroom home in desperate need of a makeover, the owners called on Dale Alcock Home Improvement to help design and fulfil their family’s needs. The vision was to have a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with an abundance of space which would stand the test of time.
Today the homes modest style is still deceptive. Step through the front door and what unfolds is a home that has all the accommodation and entertaining areas needed for a growing family who likes to entertain inside and out.
For the owners it was important that the new design maintain the integrity of the original home with bedrooms branching from a central corridor at the front of the house. Removing most of the rear of this house and rebuilding it has turned it into a more family friendly home with four bedroom, two bathrooms, open plan living, chefs kitchen and large alfresco area. The addition of a double garage with store room, which is accessible from the private laneway, completes a renovation which is not only functional but also stunning.
As a result of the exterior of the home looking a little tired the roof was replaced, an extra gable added and tuck pointing completed to the front. A limestone wall with wrought iron fence and gate has added to the overall appearance and security of the home. The facelift was completed with some touch-up paint work, transforming it into a “pretty” federation home.
The contemporary open plan living area incorporates high ceilings with a featured bulkhead over the kitchen, down lights and lovely wooden floors throughout. The kitchen, dining and family room form a large open space; perfect for entertaining. The addition of timber French doors and windows looking out over the alfresco area result in a timeless federation style, whilst at the same time allowing natural light to come through and brighten the home.
The new modern kitchen complete with stainless steel appliances and masses of storage space was exactly what the owners of this home were looking for. Overhead and under bench cupboards were created so every appliance, utensil or cooking item would have its own space. With a neutral colour palate throughout the timber floors have become a stand out feature.
The original bathroom was old and run down and a new revived bathroom was much needed. A new bath, sink and cabinetry was added creating a stylish bathroom perfect for children or guests.
A second bathroom was incorporated into the master suite. Featuring semi frameless shower, twin sinks set into an expansive bench top there should be no excuses to get in each others way during the early morning rush.
One of the standout features of the renovation is the indoor/outdoor entertaining options. Throw open the French doors from the living room onto the decked alfresco and bring the outdoors in. With stylish down-lights and fans it is very inviting whether wanting to get outside for dinner with the family, or simply for some fresh air to relax and read a book.
